LAKE WALES, Fla. - The Royals stole a season high 11 bases on Sunday's 6-to-3 win over Indiana University South Bend, including a double steal that lead to
Adriel Torres-Gonzalez stealing home in the 6th Inning.
Warner wrapped up their 3 game weekend against IU South Bend on Sunday after splitting a double header with (RV) Abraham-Baldwin Agricultural College on Friday. As promised by the Royals coaching staff, this team is causing chaos on the base paths for opposing teams as they stole 11 total bases in their win on Sunday and have stolen 26 bases in 6 games so far this season. Warner's 26 stolen bases places the team 4th overall in the NCCAA and 12th overall in the NAIA despite playing nearly half as many games as some of the teams with more steals ahead of them.
The Royals got on the board early scoring 2 runs in the 2nd Inning. The first run came off a double steal by
Horiam Santiago and
Adriel Torres-Gonzalez that lead to a throwing error by the Titans catcher in an attempt to catch Torres-Gonzalez at 3rd. The error allowed both runners to advance for the Royals to score the first run of the game.
Ethan Pues would late drive in Santiago with an RBI single, increasing his team leading RBI's to 9. Warner would tack on another run in the 3rd off an RBI single by
Raul Olivera that brought
Gabriel Rodriguez home.
In the 6th Inning the Royals were able to successfully steal home in a double steal by
Danny Garcia and Torres-Gonzalez. The Titans catcher attempted to throw out Garcia at 2nd and when Torres-Gonzalez saw him commit to 2nd, he made a break for it to achieve the rare feat of stealing home.
Paddy Smith added 1 more run to the Royals total later in the Inning on a RBI single, bringing the Royals to a 5-0 lead.
The Titans would make a late push of their own scoring 3 runs in the 7th and 8th cutting the Warner lead to 2 going into the bottom of the 8th. Warner would get another insurance run in the bottom of 8th when Santiago was able to score off a wild pitch.
Warner saw great pitching performances on Sunday by starter
Trenton Chenard and
Alexi Angelo who entered in relief during the 8th Inning. Chenard threw 7.0 Innings allowing only 1 run on 3 hits while recording 6 strikeouts. The Senior threw 6.2 Innings before allowing his only run of the game on the way to his 1st win of the season. Angelo earned a 2 Inning save on Sunday allowing only 1 hit and no runs in the clutch performance by the Senior.
Warner will look to carry this momentum with them as they go on their 1st road trip of the season this weekend when they head to Thomas University for a 3 game series.
