JACKSONVILE, Fla. — A historic milestone highlighted the night for Warner University men's volleyball, as senior setter Meric Akovali eclipsed 1,500 career assists in a 3-1 road match against Edward Waters University (25-23, 20-25, 18-25, 21-25).
The Royals opened strong, capturing the first set 25-23 behind efficient attacking and composure in tight moments. Warner recorded 14 kills in the frame and held off multiple late pushes to take the early advantage.
Edward Waters responded over the next three sets, finding offensive rhythm and capitalizing on key runs to secure the match. Despite the shift in momentum, Warner remained competitive throughout, recording double-digit kills in three of the four sets and battling through 27 total tie scores in the contest.
The night belonged to Akovali, whose 24 assists not only paced the Royals' offense but pushed him past the 1,500 career assists mark, a testament to his consistency and leadership as the team's primary facilitator. In addition to his playmaking, Akovali contributed six kills on an efficient .667 hitting percentage and added eight digs.
Romone Rudolph led Warner offensively with 13 kills on a .478 hitting clip, while Darion Graham added 10 kills and a service ace. Defensively, Kj Harrison anchored the back row with nine digs as the Royals totaled 36 digs as a team.
Warner finished the match with 44 kills and 52 total points, continuing to show balance and fight against a physical Edward Waters squad.
The Royals now turn their attention to their next road matchup.
Warner returns to action April 1, traveling to Miami Shores, Fla. to face Barry University at 6 p.m.
