RECAP: Wagoner Hits Walk Off Double as Royals Sweep Double-Header Against Calumet

LAKE WALES, Fla. - Royals Softball swept Friday's double-header against the Crimson Wave of Calumet College of St. Joseph to return the Royals to an above .500 record. Alisha Wagoner highlighted the day for Warner with her game 1 walk-off double to give the Royals a 2-1 win before the Royals took game 2 by a score of 7-4.

Game 1: Royals Win 2-1
The first game of Friday's double-header between the Royals and Crimson Wave was a true pitcher's duel as both program's starters gave their opposing hitters very little to opportunities to drive in runs. The Crimson Wave got on the board first scoring in the 2nd Inning to take a 1-0 lead and were able to fend off the the Royals until the 5th Inning when the Royals took advantage of an error by Calumet. Diana Martin was able to reach base on an error that allowed Autumn Calcagno to score tying the game at 1 entering the final Innings of the game. Both pitchers shut down the opposing offenses in the 6th to keep the game tied entering the final Inning of play. After preventing the Crimson Wave from scoring in the top of the 7th, Calcagno hit a 1 out single to put the winning run on base for Alisha Wagoner. Wagoner stepped up to meet the moment and hit a walk-off RBI double to win the game for the Royals. In the circle, Royals starter Elle Hernandez went the distance for Warner, pitching all 7 Innings against the Crimson Wave and allowed only 1 run on 5 hits and struck out 7 in the win.

Game 2: Royals Win 7-4
The Royals offense was on fire in game 2 scoring in every inning but the 6th on their way to a 7-to-4 win to sweep Calumet. Warner got on the board early when Diana Martin scored when Autumn Calcagno reached base on an error. The Royals tacked on another run in the 2nd Inning when April Dominguez recorded her 1st RBI of the day when she drove in Grace Derstine on a single to center field. Warner brought in 3 more runs in the 3rd starting with a double steal that saw Derstine stealing 2nd and Wagoner stealing home. Derstine would then score later in the Inning when Lauren Fernald reached base on an error and Dominguez would bring in the final run of the Inning on an RBI single to get Fernald home. Jillian Hudson then hit an RBI double in the 4th that brought Wagoner in for the team's 6th run of the game. The Crimson Wave fought back and cut the lead to 2 after scoring 3 of their own in the 5th Inning, but the Royals would add an insurance run in the bottom of the Inning when Martin hit and an infield single and Abby Faircloth was able to score after a throwing error.

Jaylin Pinedo earned her first collegiate win after getting the start for the Royals in game 2 of Friday's double-header. Pinedo pitched 4 and a third Innings and struck out a career high 4 batters in the win. Elle Hernandez came out of the bullpen in game 2 and picked up where she left off in game 1, throwing 2.2 shutout innings while allowing only 2 base runners and struck out 2 to close out the win for the Royals.
