Royals Place Fifth in the Sun Conference Tournament

Sarasota, Fl. – April 10-11, 2026 – The Warner University beach volleyball team traveled to New College of Florida to compete in the Sun Conference Tournament. After going 1-1 in the opening rounds, the Royals advanced to championship day, where they ultimately fell 3-2 in a narrow loss that kept them just shy of the semifinals.

 

April 10 – Ave Maria University 3, Warner 0 

  • Pair 1: Cooley/Fassnacht (WU) vs. Bravo/Delyon (AMU) – 21-15, 12-14-
  • Pair 2: Getz/Lopes (AMU) def. McDermott/Amer (WU) – 16-21, 21-19, 16-14

Day Recap:

The Royals opened the tournament against #2 Ave Maria. Under the tournament's truncated scoring format—where a match concludes as soon as a team reaches three wins—Pairs 1 and 3 were still battling for the Royals when the overall match was called.

Dropping into the losers bracket, the Royals faced Loyola University with their season on the line. The match came down to a thriller for Pair 3, where Lydia Coggins and Reese Crossman forced a decisive third set. In a dramatic finish, the pair secured the match point, sparking a team celebration and punching the Royals' ticket to day two of the Conference Tournament.

  • Pair 1: Baxter/Hunt (WIU) def. Cooley/Fassnacht (WU) – 21-15, 21-17
  • Pair 2: McDermott/Amer (WU) def. Flom/Gomez (WIU) – 21-13, 21-10
  • Pair 3: Canico/Marks-Craig (WIU) def. Coggins/Crosman (WU) – 22-20, 21-10
  • Pair 4: Morgan/Mull (WIU) def. Dumont/Anderson (WU) – 21-8, 21-11
  • Pair 5: Laboy/De Jesus (WU) def. Adams/Leonard (WIU) – 21-16, 21-15

Day Recap:

Entering day two of the Conference Tournament, the Royals looked to climb through the elimination bracket toward a semifinal berth. Facing Webber International University in a crooked lake rivalry match, the Royals kept it close from the start. Pair 2, Skye McDermott and Antonia Amer, secured the first win for Warner with a dominant performance. They were soon followed by Pair 5Imar Laboy and Julia De Jesus, who battled through a tough match to claim the Royals' second win. Despite the gritty effort, the Royals ultimately fell short in a 3-2, finishing their tournament run in fifth place.
