LAKE WALES, Fla. - The Royals Softball team gave their seniors another win over Webber International in their final SUN Conference series of the regular season and secure the series win on Senior Day. Warner took game 1 of the Senior Day double-header by a score of 3-to-1, but fell in the final game of the series by a final score of 3-to-0.
The Royals took an early lead in game 1 driving in 2 runs in the 2nd Inning.
Meagan Bruns drove in the Royals first run of the game when she hit an RBI double to left field to bring
Jillian Hudson home before
Grace Derstine scored to give Warner a 2-0 lead. The Warriors cut the Royals lead down to 1 in the 5th Inning, but Warner regained their 2 run lead in the 6th Inning when Bruns drove in her 2nd RBI of the game on another RBI double that scored
Grace Derstine. In game 1, the Royals pitching staff was on fire limiting the Warriors to only 4 hits without allowing an earned run.
Keirsten Garman earned her 5th win of the season after getting the start for the Royals throwing 5.1 Innings without allowing an earned run and limiting the Warriors to only 3 hits while striking out 5 in the win.
Elle Hernandez earned her 1st save of the year throwing 1.2 Innings while allowing only 1 hit and struck out 1 to help secure the series win for Warner.
The final game of the series continued the trend of tightly contested games as the Royals fell by a score of 3-to-0. Warner's pitchers had a strong outing in game 2 allowing only 1 earned run in the game while Hernandez struck out 2 coming in from the bullpen. Freshman
Lauren Fernald lead the Royals at the plate going 2-for-3 in game 2 while Bruns,
Alisha Wagoner and
Autumn Calcagno all recorded hits of their own. After taking the series, the Royals now hold the final position to make the SUN Conference tournament by way of a tie breaker.
Warner will look to build on the weekend's series win as they take on University of Fort Lauderdale for their final games of the regular season on Thursday.
