LAKELAND, Fla. - The Royals wrapped up their 3 game SUN Conference series against #6 Southeastern University on Friday. Warner was able to keep the Fire to their lowest scoring series against Conference opponents this weekend, but were unable to upset one of the team's in the country falling on Friday by a score of 4-to-1.
Warner held the high scoring Fire to only 12 runs in their weekend Conference series, which is the least amount of runs that SEU has scored in a SUN Conference series this season. The Royals' offense faced a tall task in trying to create rallies against one of the top pitching staffs in the NAIA who have a combined team ERA of 0.66.
April Dominguez and
Abby Faircloth both were able to create great contact of the Fire's pitchers and each were able to record doubles while
Lauren Fernald recorded a single in Friday's matchup. The Royls one run came in the 4th Inning taht started with a disciplined lead off walk by
Jillian Hudson. Alex Bowe-Wooten pinch ran for Hudson and was able to move up to third after a passed ball and a productive at-bat by
Grace Derstine. Bowe-Wooten was able to reach home safely when Fernald was able to get the ball in play when she reached on a fielding error.
The Royals will look to build off their strong pitching and defensive outings from this weekend when they return home to take on Ave Maria next weekend.
