CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Warner Softball team began their Sun Conference Tournament on Thursday afternoon taking on the #3 seeded College of Coastal Georgia. The Royals and Mariners battled in a tightly contested matchup that would ultimately end in favor of Coastal Georgia by virtue of a walk-off in the 7th Inning.
The Royals opened up the scoring in the 1st Inning when
Lauren Fernald drove in
Diana Martin to give Warner an early 1-0 lead. Coastal Georgia responded in the 3rd Inning with 2 runs of their own to take the lead. Warner refused to quit stringing together multiple strong at-bats and timely hitting in the 4th and 5th Innings to retake the lead by a score of 3-to-2.
Alisha Wagoner drove in Fernald in the 4th Inning on a RBI double to left center and
April Dominguez was able to take advantage of a Mariners error in the 5th to give the Royals the lead back. The Mariners would go on to tie the game back up in the bottom of the 5th before taking the game on a walk-off in the bottom of the 7th.
Warner's pitching staff was solid in the team's 1st post-season game of the year.
