LAKE WALES, Fla. - The Royals Women's Soccer team continued their historic start to the season with a 10-to-0 win over Florida Polytechnic University on Wednesday night, extending their winning streak to 5. Warner's 10 goal win saw the team produce 6 different goal scorers inluding 4 players who recorded 2 goals each.
After a quiet opening 15 minutes of play, the floodgates opened for the Royals during the 16th minute when
Clarissa Chew got the scoring started for Warner off an assist from
Elisabet Rosario. Warner spent no time getting the ball back into their offensive third and would score less than 40 seconds later when
Astrid Beckemeier scored from just outside of the box on a perfectly placed chip shot that hit the inside of the far post and went in to put the Royals up 2-to-0. Beckemeier became the first of 4 Royals to earn 2 goals on the night 3 minutes later during the 19th minute when Warner had a beautifully built up attack down the left side that culminated on a pass across the 6 yard line that Beckemeier knocked in for the Royals 3rd goal of the game. Only a few minutes later, Beckemeier would record her 3rd assist of the year when she played a ball in behind the FPU defense to
Hailey Westphal who received the pass and then nailed a shot into the near side to give Warner a 4-0 lead. Less than a minute later,
Shelby Cape would add her name to the stat sheet when she recovered a loose ball in the Warner offensive third before beating her defender on the wing and scored in a 1v1 with the FPU goalkeeper.Â
In the 32nd minute, Junior
Mackenzie Hart recorded her 1st goal in her Collegiate Career when she linked up with Cape on a 2v1 against the goalie to put Warner up by 6 goals. Cape would go on to tally her 2nd goal of the night in the 38th minute scoring on a 1-touch shot after
Bria-Sierra Brockington found her in the box to send Warner into the break with a 7-to-0 lead.
Jaclyn Malagies opened up the scoring in the 2nd half when she scored in another 1v1 opportunity with the FPU goalkeeper after receiving a through ball from
Sabrina Bouchachia in the 50th minute. Chew became the third Royal to record a brace in the game when she scored her 2nd goal of the game in the 54th minute. The Royals 10th, and final, goal of the night came from Malagies when she took advantage of a great through ball from
Gianna Bellomo for her 2nd goal of the night.Â
The Royals defense earned their 1st shutout of the year in the win over Florida Poly thanks to the defensive efforts of
Alycia Hizer,
Bailee Sanchioni,
Nerea Arranz,
Maren Stark,
Layla Sikhakhane and Malagies on the field and
Haley Van Houweling in net. Warner's final stat line from the win was 46 shots, 28 on goal, 6 corner kicks, and 1 save.Â
Following Wednesday night's win, the Royals are now tied for the most goals scored in the NCCAA and have the 5th most goals scored in the NAIA with 32. Warner also leads the NCCAA and is 3rd highest in the NAIA in Goal Average with 6.4 goals per game and the Royals lead the NCCAA in largest average margin of victory at 5.6. The Royals efforts have not gone unnoticed as the team was voted as the #9 ranked team in the NCCAA's first Coaches Poll of the season that was released on September 15th.
Warner will look to build on this momentum as they travel to NCAA DI Jacksonville University for an Exhibition before traveling to Florida College next for their last non-conference game before they take on the Sun Conference.Â
