BRADENTON, Fla. - The Royals took to the road on Wednesday to continue their SUN Conference campaign and face off with the Mighty Banyans of New College of Florida. Warner battled with the 11-2 overall Banyans, but ultimately fell in 3 sets (20-25, 16-25, 19-25).
The Royals and Banyans went back and forth throughout the opening set, with neither team able to pull away from the other until the very end when NCF outscored the Royals 7 to 3 to take set 1 by a final score of 20-25. NCF would go on to control the 2nd set to take a 2-0 lead with a 16-25 final score. The Royals refused to go down without a fight and put NCF on their heels early as they took a 3-0 lead to open the set. Warner continued to battle through the third set, but NCF eventually came out on top 19-25 to take the match.
Senior
Araya Garrison lead the Royals in points on Wednesday night, recording 6.0 points on 4 kills and a team high 3 total blocks (1 solo) while adding 2 digs on the defensive end.
Rylee Waldie and
Lizzy Short were also recorded a team high of 4 kills each in the Conference road match Wednesday.
Julia De Jesus lead the Royals with 2 aces on the night, while adding 1 kill and 1 assist to her stat line.
Imar Laboy recorded 15 of the Royals 18 assists against the Mighty Banyans and recorded 1 assisted block and 7 digs.
Leonelis Lopez-Fernandez recorded a team high 10 digs in her 2nd stint in the Libero position this season.
The Royals will look to use their off weekend to regroup before they resume SUN Conference play next week when they take on (RV) Southeastern University and Florida Memorial University.
