LAKE WALES, Fla. - Four players scored in double digits as Warner University men's basketball team cruised to a 78-55 season opening victory over Florida College on Tuesday night in front of a packed house in the Turner Athletic Center.
Warren Hall registered a double-double and the Royals (1-0) shot 46.2% from the field to give ninth year head coach
Sean Hanrahan his 150th win.
"It's humbling to hear that we reached 150 wins," Hanrahan said after the victory. "I appreciate Warner University's loyalty to our program, to my family and our ministry to use basketball as a building block for a Christian education. God is good."
The Royals led 43-29 after the first 20 minutes behind a 44% field goal shooting. Warner's
Warren Hall had nine points and eight points in the first half. The Royals had the advantage down low all night against the Falcons with 14 points in the paint in the first half and a 30-12 advantage in the game.
The Royals' offense picked up in the second half as
Keevis Tukes and
Bladimyr Santiago each scored nine points to lead the way. With 4:26 left in the game, Tukes drilled a three-pointer to give Warner their largest lead of the game, 72-46.
The Royals got great bench play down the stretch with 10 players scoring points. Nine of the Royals' 11 players in the game played at least 10 minutes.
"9 guys with at least 10 minutes and 10 guys scoring made us hard to defend," said Coach Hanrahan after the win. "Coach Giles and Coach Lubin did a great job with our defensive scouting report that determined the win for us by allowing only 55 points; the win really goes to them and our student-athletes."
Newcomer
Bladimyr Santiago led all players with 16 points and four rebounds. After a 2nd Team All-Conference freshman season,
Warren Hall returned to form finishing with 15 points and 10 points.
Keevis Tukes finished with 12 points, five rebounds and four assists. Newcomer
Jamie Anderson had 11 points and three steals as well.
On Saturday, Nov. 1, the Royals welcome Trinity College to the Turner Athletic Center for a 4 p.m. tip-off.
