LAKE WALES, Fla. - Warner University women's volleyball team advanced to the semifinals of The Sun Conference tournament with a 3-1 (25-22, 22-25, 25-16, 25-19) victory over Northwood University on Tuesday night. The third-seeded Lady Royals defeated the sixth seeded Seahawks for the third time this season and are now 10-13 on the season; the Seahawks' season comes to an end at 11-16.
After winning their first two meetings of the season by a combined 6-0, the Lady Royals got off to a great start in the quarterfinal match winning the first set 25-22.
Marisa Moralobo had six kills and
Adrienne Czaplewski finished with five kills.
The Seahawks broke the 7-0 streak by winning the second set 25-22. The Lady Royals bounced back and never trailed in the third set winning easily 25-16.
Northwood scored the first four points of the fourth set as they looked to even the match at 2-2. However the Lady Royals made a 5-0 run of their own and took the lead for good at 8-6. The 25-19 fourth set win clinched a spot in the tournament semifinals for the fifth time in the last six seasons for the Lady Royals.
Marisa Moralobo led the Lady Royals on the night with 17 kills and 21 digs.
Adrienne Czaplewski finished with 12 kills and 16 digs.
Tiffani Pate also reached double-digit kills with 10 in the game.
Pate led a nine-kill performance by the Lady Royals with one solo block and four block assists. Czaplewski also had a solo block and two block assists.
Nicole Wittmer and
Rachel Stanton split time at setter against the Seahawks. Wittmer finished with 19 assists while Stanton offered up 18 assists.
The Lady Royals will travel south to Miami Gardens, Fla. for the tournament semifinal hosted by regular season champions St. Thomas University on Friday, Nov. 14. The Lady Royals will take on second-seeded Embry-Riddle University at 4 p.m. in the Fernandez Family Center.
