LAKE WALES, Fla. - In their final regular season game of the season, Warner University women's volleyball team swept Florida Memorial University 3-0 (25-12, 25-14, 25-13) on Saturday afternoon. The win ends the regular season portion of the Lady Royals schedule with a 9-13 overall record and an 8-6 mark in Sun Conference play. The loss secures a winless 2014 for the Lions who are now 0-19 overall and 0-14 in league play.
It was all Warner in the first set as they took the early lead and never trailed posting a .300 hitting percentage as a team.
Adrienne Czaplewski led the way with five kills and three digs.
The Lions came out and scored the first point of the second set for a 1-0 lead. It would be their first and only of the match. The Lady Royals took over and ran out to a 15-6 lead.
Marisa Moralobo had four kills in the 25-14 second set win.
The Lady Royals never trailed in the third set and led 16-5 before the Lions called a timeout to break up a 6-0 Warner run. The Lady Royals hit .400 as a team in the third set and were led by Moralobo's five kills.
For the match, Moralobo led all players with 13 kills.
Tiffani Pate led the team with a .417 hitting percentage and five kills. Pate also had a big day at the net with two solo blocks and four block assists.
Czaplewski was second on the team with eight kills in the match. She also tallied 12 digs and had two service aces.
Nicole Wittmer made her second straight start at setter and dished 27 assists.
The Lady Royals totaled eight service aces in the match and were led by
Thalia Mendez who had four to lead all players.
Heather Lockwood finished with a game-high 15 digs as well.
The Sun Conference Tournament begins on Tuesday, Nov. 11, with the quarterfinal round. After finishing 8-6 in league play, the Lady Royals finished in a tie for third place with cross-county rivals Southeastern University. Following the tie-breaker scenarios, the Lady Royals are awarded the third overall seed and will host sixth seeded Northwood University on Tuesday night in the Turner Athletic Center. The match will start at 7 p.m.
