LAKE WALES, Fla. - For the second night in a row, Warner University men's volleyball team won convincingly over the University of California Merced 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-16) in the Turner Athletic Center.
In similar fashion to Thursday night's season opener, the Royals took a 1-0 lead thanks to a dominant first set.
Martin Krueger and
Devin Lofton broke a 5-5 tie with big double block and the Royals never looked back winning 25-16.
Joshua Jordan picked up where he left off on Thursday with four kills in the first set. Krueger had eight assists and two kills as well.
After a back and forth second set in which the Royals hung on for a 25-22 victory, the third set was all Warner. The Royals had their best hitting performance in six sets so far this season with 21 kills and a .567 hitting percentage as a team. Jordan added six kills to his tally giving him 14 for the match.
Krueger nearly matched his assist total from Thursday with 34 assists on Friday night. He added 10 digs to record the double-double as well as four kills.
Steven Vaughn had a big night at the net with 11 kills and a .368 hitting percentage.
Hui Ding and
Reggie Montalvo were perfect passing the ball on the night with no errors in 26 attempts. Ding was second on the team with eight digs.
As a team the Royals totaled seven blocks in the game.
Devin Lofton and
Gonzalo Fernandez had two blocks each.
The Royals head into the final day of their three-game home stand on Saturday with a 2-0 record. At 1 p.m. the Royals welcome Bluefield College (Va.) to the Turner Athletic Center. The Rams are in their first season of intercollegiate competition and are fellow NAIA National Division members with the Royals in 2015.
