AVE MARIA, Fla. - Warner University men's basketball team broke a two-game skid with a 62-49 conference road victory over Ave Maria University on Thursday night. The Royals scored forty points in the second half to pick up their 13
th win of the season (13-4) and their third The in Sun Conference (3-4).
The Royals and Gyrenes had six tie scores in the first half as neither team could find their grove offensively. Both sides shot better than 40% from the floor in the first half but a five minute scoring drought with six minutes to go before halftime kept the scoring to a season-low total for the Royals.
The Royals led at the break 22-20 behind 45% shooting from the field.
Eddie Delegal got the Royals' offense going to start the second half scoring the first eight points. The Royals jumped out to their largest lead of the night, 30-22, following the Delegal's second three-pointer of the half at the 16:42 mark.
From there the Royals never trailed the rest of the way and led by as many as 12 points.
Antonio Ansley scored Warner's final points with a free throw in the waning seconds to make it 62-49.
In the second half, the Royals were 50% shooters from the field and were 15-of-20 from the free throw line outscoring the Gyrenes 40-29.
Eddie Delegal led all scorers with 19 points and was 11-of-15 from the free throw line.
Warren Hall added 14 points and five rebounds.
Antonio Ansley came off the bench and scored 11 points in the win as well.
On Saturday, Jan. 24, the Royals return home to face St. Thomas University at 4 p.m. in the Turner Athletic Center.
