LAKE WALES, Fla. – In their final non-conference match of the 2015 season, Warner University men's soccer team lost at home to Montreat College (N.C.) 1-0 on Saturday night. The Cavaliers scored in the 69
th minute and held off the Royals for 90 minutes to pick up their fifth win of the season (5-3-2). The loss drops the Royals to 1-8-1 overall on the season.
The first 45 minutes went scoreless as the Cavaliers outshot the Royals 9-2 in the first half. Royals' goal keeper
David Bartalos made two saves in the first half and the two sides entered halftime knotted at 0-0.
Things remained the same to start the second half as the Cavaliers continued to outshoot the Royals 14-7. Finally in the 69
th minute, the Cavaliers' Esgardo Arroyo found the back of the net to put the visitors ahead 1-0. That's the way to score would remain as the Royals could not score the equalizer in the final 20 minutes.
Priit Peedo and
Jonathan Freiria had the two Warner shots on goal in the game. Peedo led the Royals with three total shots in the match.
Bartalos made six saves in 90 minutes in goal for the Royals as well.
Next week the Royals host a pair of Sun Conference matches. First on Wednesday, Oct. 14, the Royals and St. Thomas University will meet at 7:30 p.m. Then on Saturday, Oct. 17, the Royals and Florida Memorial University will meet at 7:30 p.m.
