LAKE WALES, Fla. – Less than 24 hours after dropping a tough Sun Conference match, Warner University women's soccer team bounced back in a big way defeating Montreat College (N.C.) on Saturday evening. The non-conference win evens the Lady Royals' record at 4-4 while keeping the Cavaliers winless in 2015 at 0-9-1.
All the action came in the first 45 minutes of the game with three goals scored. Warner's
Elizabeth Lewis scored her first goal of the season in the 24
th minute to put the Lady Royals on top 1-0.
Ashley Cole picked up her third assist setting up the goal with a cross from the right side.
In the 40
th minute the Cavaliers netted the equalizer off a corner kick then four minutes later Warner's dynamic scoring duo of
Jamie Murray and
Naybet Febo connected for the go ahead goal. Febo assisted for the sixth time this season while Murray scored her 12
th goal in the eight games for the Lady Royals.
The Lady Royals outshot the Cavaliers 15-4 in the first half and held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Despite 12 shots by the Lady Royals neither team found the back of the net in the second half. Warner's
Sarah Bergkvist made one save, her only one of the game, in the second half as the rest of the Lady Royals' defense held the Cavaliers to one shot.
Murray led the way with eight shots in the game including three on frame.
Tiffany Methot came off the bench to record three shots as well.
Next week the Lady Royals close out the home portion of their 2015 schedule with a pair of home matches. First on Thursday, Oct. 15, the Lady Royals welcome in St. Thomas University for a 5 p.m. kick-off. Then on Saturday, Oct. 17, the Lady Royals will celebrate senior night against Florida Memorial University. Kick-off for that contest is also set for 5 p.m.
