LAKELAND, Fla. – In their first of four straight road games to end the season, Warner University women's soccer team lost to cross-county rival Southeastern University on Wednesday night 5-3. The Lady Royals are now 4-7 overall and 1-7 in The Sun Conference. The Fire improve to 9-5 and 4-4 in league play.
In a game that featured eight goals, six were scored in the first 45 minutes. The Fire led 4-2 at halftime and led 2-0 after the first four minutes of action. In the 26
th minute, the Fire stretched their lead to 3-0 but less than a minute later Warner's
Naybet Febo scored on a long strike from the right side to put the Lady Royals on the scoreboard.
Jamie Murray beat her defender in the 36
th minute and buried a shot in the upper left corner of the goal to make cut the Fire lead to 3-2.
The Fire, however, added their fourth goal just before halftime to make it 4-2.
Southeastern tacked on two more goals to start the second half and led 5-2 until the 73
rd minute when Murray scored her second of the game off an assist by
Kristen Isabelle. Murray took the pass from the right side and scored from 12 yards out.
The Fire held a 23-16 shot advantage in the game including a 13-4 edge in the first half. Warner's
Sarah Bergkvist made eight saves in goal playing all 90 minutes.
Murray led the team with six shots on goal and now has 15 goals in 11 games for the Lady Royals.
Maria Diaz came off the bench and fired four shots, including two on goal as well.
On Saturday, Oct. 24, the Lady Royals travel south to take on Ave Maria University at 4 p.m. Next week the Lady Royals close out the 2015 regular season with matches at Florida College (Oct. 26) and Webber International University (Oct. 30).
