LAKELAND, Fla. –
Angie Pagan-Perez had 22 kills and Warner University women's volleyball team won their 11
th straight match on Thursday night. The Lady Royals defeated cross-county rivals Southeastern University 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-20) in front of a raucous crowd at the Sportsplex. The win keeps the Lady Royals perfect in Sun Conference play at 9-0 and improves their overall record to 14-4. The Fire fall to 15-8 and 6-4 in league play.
The Lady Royals scored the first three points of the first set and they were off and running. They led 7-2 early on but had to fight off Fire late in the set after a 6-0 run gave Southeastern the lead 22-20. After trading points, the Fire led 23-21 but the Lady Royals scored the final four points to win the opening set 25-21.
It was the Fire who jumped out to an early lead in the third set leading 5-1. The Lady Royals erased the deficit thanks to an 8-2 run and led 9-7.
Angie Pagan-Perez had four kills during the run. The second set went back and forth until the Lady Royal broke a 17-17 tie with a 7-1 run. Pagan-Perez recorded her eight kill of the set to put the Lady Royals ahead 2-0 in the match.
In the third set, the Fire led by as many as four but it was not enough as the Lady Royals used a 6-0 run late to re-take the lead for good clinching the 3-0 sweep 25-20.
Pagan-Perez had a monster game for the Lady Royals finishing with a season-high 22 kills and a .415 hitting percentage. She also had nine digs and two blocks to her credit.
Adrienne Czaplewski, the reigning Sun Conference Player of the Week, had 10 kills and a team-high 12 digs.
Jenna Swaffer led the team with three service aces and 38 assists as well.
Breeanna Navarro had nine kills and hit .304 at the net for Warner.
The Lady Royals remaining three matches will all be in the friendly confines of the Turner Athletic Center. First up on Saturday, Oct. 31, the Lady Royals take on Webber International University in an afternoon match slated for a 2 p.m. start.
