Lady Royals' Streak Now at 12 After Sweep of Warriors

LAKE WALES, Fla. – In their second rivalry match of the week, Warner University women's volleyball team defeated Webber International University 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-20) on Saturday afternoon for their 12th win in a row.  The Lady Royals are now 10-0 in The Sun Conference with two matches remaining and 15-4 overall.  The Lady Royals have also swept seven of their last eight opponents, all in conference matches.

The Lady Royals got off to a great start in the first set winning 25-20.  Angie Pagan-Perez, who had 22 kills against Southeastern on Thursday night, picked up right where she left off and had five kills in the first set.  Thalia Mendez was strong out of the gate as well with eight digs.

In the second set, the Lady Royals found themselves trailing 9-6 early on after the Warriors erased a 5-0 deficit with a 9-1 run of their own.  The Warriors led by as many as four points during the set but found themselves tied with the Lady Royals 22-22.  From there the Lady Royals scored three of the final four points in the set to pull ahead 2-0 in the match.  Breeanna Navarro and Adrienne Czaplewski combined for 13 of Warner's 16 kills in the set.

An early 9-0 run by the Lady Royals gave them a 14-5 lead midway through the third set.  The Warriors were resilient down the stretch and pulled to within two points before the Lady Royals scored the final three points to seal the sweep 25-20.

Czaplewski finished with 16 kills and a .306 hitting percentage.  Navarro had 13 kills and a team-high .480 hitting percentage.  Pagan-Perez finished with eight kills giving her 30 in two matches this week.

Jenna Swaffer had her eighth match of the season with at least 35 assists.  The junior finished with 35 against the Warriors along with eight digs.  Thalia Mendez was perfect passing the ball in the match in 15 attempts.  She also led all players with 15 digs.

The Lady Royals will look to close out the regular season next week with a pair of home matches against conference foes.  First on Friday, Nov. 6, the Lady Royals welcome Florida Memorial University for a 7 p.m. match.  Then on Saturday, Nov. 7, St. Thomas University comes to the Turner Athletic Center for a 2 p.m. regular season finale.
