MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - In their final road game of the 2014-15 regular season, Warner University men's basketball team lost to Florida Memorial University 72-66 on Saturday night. The Lions overcame a four-point Warner lead at halftime and outscored the Royals by 10 points in the second half. The loss in the eighth of the season for the Royals and drops their record to 17-8 overall and 7-8 in The Sun Conference.
The Royals ran out to an 8-0 lead holding the Lions scoreless until the 14:29 mark.
Eddie Delegal scored four of Warner's first eight points.
The Lions got to within one point of the Royals midway through the first half but the Royals maintained the lead thanks to 48% shooting from the field. The Lions would not go away however, and Samuel Dorismond tied things up, 33-33, with a three pointer at the 3:05 mark. Following a steal by Davonte Byrd, the Lions took the lead 34-33 on a Hanif Mally free throw with 2:33 left in the half.
The Royals retook the lead on their next possession and carried a 40-36 advantage into halftime.
The Royals' four point lead was gone by the 17:33 mark as Samuel Dorismond connected for one of his eight-three pointers to put Florida Memorial in front 44-42; five minutes later the Royals trailed 53-44.
In the second half, the Royals' offense cooled while the Lions' offense got hotter. As a team, the Royals combined to shoot 27.3% from the field in the second half and were 2-of-14 from behind the arc compared to the Lions' 54.2% shooting and 3-of-6 from behind the arc.
The Royals were resilient and came back to tie the game, 64-64, with 2:04 left in regulation, but the Lions responded with an 8-2 run to close out the game 72-66.
Warren Hall recorded his 11
th 20-point game of the season on Saturday night. Hall finished with 24 points and also had four steals.
Eddie Delegal scored 16 points and led the team with eight rebounds.
Keevis Tukes scored seven points and also had four steals.
Next week the Royals close out the regular season portion of the 2014-15 schedule with three home games at the Turner Athletic Center. On Tuesday, Feb. 17, Northwood University comes to town for a 7 p.m. tip-off. Then on Thursday, Feb. 19, Johnson & Wales University and the Royals square off at 7 p.m. Saturday Feb. 21, marks the end of the regular season with a 4 p.m. tip-off with Ave Maria University.
