Rain Prevents Royals From Completing Double Header With Bobcats

LAKE WALES, Fla. – Rain prevented the Royals and the visiting Bobcats from St. Thomas University from completing their double header on Saturday afternoon, halting game two in the third inning of  play. The teams were able to get the first game in before the weather turned bad, with the Bobcats upsetting the Royals 16-1.

The Bobcats offense exploded in the third inning, scoring 10 runs on eight hits. The Royals scored a run in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a double to left field from Kevin Gregg, but that would be there only mark on the scoreboard. Unfortunately, the Bobcats showed no signs of slowing down scoring a run in the fifth, four in the sixth, and their final run in the seventh.

Jimmy Diven (2-2) took the loss for the Royals. Diven went two complete innings and allowed three runs on three hits. Jose Hernandez came into the game in the third inning and allowed seven runs on six hits before passing the ball to Bobby Barradas. Barradas tossed the final four and a third innings for the Royals and allowed six runs on eight hits.

The loss drops the Royals to 5-12 on the season and 2-6 in Sun Conference play. The Royals return to action on Monday, March 2, to face the Golden Eagles of Cornerstone University (Mich.). First pitch for the non-conference match-up is scheduled for 3 p.m.
