MISHAWAKA, Ind. – On day two the Bethel College Invitational, Warner University women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to No. 18 Evangel University (Mo.) and RV Ashford University (Iowa). The Lady Royals head home after a 1-3 performance in their season opening weekend.
In their first game against Evangel, the Lady Royals lost in three sets 3-0 (17-25, 16-25, 17-25). Like she did on day one of the Invitational,
Adrienne Czaplewski led the Lady Royals with nine kills in the match.
Thalia Mendez and
Angie Pagan-Perez both posted a team-high 17 digs as well.
Ivelisse Saint-Clair followed Czaplewski with seven kills of her own while
Breeanna Navarro led the team with three service aces.
The Lady Royals needed five sets in their tournament finale against Ashford. The Saints held on for the victory though 3-2 (25-23, 17-25, 15-25, 25-23, 13-15). Three Lady Royals finished with at least 10 kills in the match. Czaplewski and Pagan-Perez both had 11 kills and double-digit digs. Navarro finished with 10 kills.
Mendez had a tournament-high 30 digs in the match as well.
The Lady Royals take to the court again next Friday and Saturday in Lakeland with a pair of matches against Columbia College (S.C.) on Aug. 28 and Pensacola Christian College on Aug. 29. Both matches will be played at Southeastern University.
Then on Saturday night, the Lady Royals will meet the defending NCAA-II National Champion University of Tampa women's volleyball team in an exhibition match at the Bob Martinez Athletics Center.
