LAKE WALES, Fla. – In their Sun Conference opener, Warner University women's volleyball team defeated Ave Maria University 3-1 (20-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-22) on Friday night in the Turner Athletic Center. Despite dropping the first set, the Lady Royals rallied for three straight wins behind an 18-kill performance by freshman
Breeanna Navarro. The Lady Royals are now 6-4 and begin league play at 1-0. The Gyrenes fall to 10-4 and 0-1 in conference.
On a tough offensive night for the Lady Royals, Navarro was a bright spot with 18 kills to lead all players and a .382 hitting percentage.
Adrienne Czaplewski followed with 13 kills and led the defensive effort with 17 digs.
Angie Pagan-Perez totaled 10 kills as well and also had three service
aces.
Junior setter
Jenna Swaffer paced the Warner offense with a season-high 47 assists.
Thalia Mendez had 15 digs on the night as well.
The Lady Royals hit the road next weekend for a pair of Sun Conference matches Friday and Saturday. First on Friday, Sept. 25, the Lady Royals take on Keiser University, formerly Northwood University, at 7 p.m. in West Palm Beach, Fla. Then on Saturday, Sept. 26, the Lady Royals will face the Gyrenes in a rematch at 2 p.m.
