Hield Leads Lady Royals at Sand Shark Shootout

BLUFFTON, S.C. – In their second tournament of the season, Warner University women's golf team placed eighth at the Sand Shark Invitational hosted by the University of South Carolina Beaufort at the Hampton Hall Club.  The Lady Royals shot a 743 (382-361) in the 36-hole event which featured fellow Sun Conference members South Carolina Beaufort and Webber International University.

The host Sand Sharks won the event by seven strokes over the College of Coastal Georgia with a two round 612 (303-309).  Sarah Gilliard of Coastal Georgia was the low individual medalist in the 44 player field.  Gilliard shot a 144 (70-74) to win by three strokes.

For the Lady Royals, there was a 21-stroke difference between the first and second rounds as all four players dropped at least two strokes off their first round scores.  Marlique Hield led the scoring with a 172 (87-85) and finished in 29th place.

Mackenzie Laboyteaux was next in 32nd place with a 176 (90-86).  Megan Fernander made the biggest splash dropping 10 strokes from round one to round two.  The Lady Royals newcomer fired a 196 (103-93).

Crysta Camara finished three shots back of her teammate Fernander with a 199 (102-97).

Next up for the Lady Royals is a trip to Valdosta, Ga. for the Thomas University Fall Invitational on Oct. 12-13.
