Box Score AVE MARIA, Fla.- The women's volleyball team took on Ave Maria Wednesday evening in a Sun Conference match-up at Ave Maria. The Royals walked in fired up as they jumped out to a 5-0 lead then built it even more to go up 15-6. The Royals refused to cool off as they dominated the first set and won by a score of 25-15 over the Gyrenes. Set two was more of the same from the Royals as they were able to go ahead 12-5 in the set. The Gyrenes would make a run and get the score to 16-14, but the Royals would finish off the set winning the final 5 points to win 25-18 and take a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Gyrenes refused to go down without a fight as they came out in set three and jumped on top 4-0 early. Ave Maria held the lead for much of the set but the Royals kept it close enough to stay within striking distance. With the Gyrenes up 19-15, the Royals went on a five point run to go up 20-19. The Gyrenes would get the lead back at 25-24, however, the Royals would go on to win the final three points of the match to take set three from Ave Maria 27-25 and sweep the Gyrenes 3-0. The Royals improved to 10-4 (6-2) on the season following the win.
Warner was led offensively by Angie Pagan Perez and
Adrienne Czaplewski who each had 13 kills in the match.
Raygen Lee came away with 31 assists and
Thalia Mendez finished the match with 13 digs to lead the Royals on defense.
Warner is back at home on Saturday October 15 at 2 pm against St. Thomas University for their next match.
