Box Score LAKELAND, Fla.- The women's volleyball team took a trip to Lakeland to face off with Southeastern Fire in a Sun Conference match on Wednesday night. With Hurricane Matthew looming, and Saturday's volleyball match cancelled for travel reasons, the Royals looked to make a statement against Southeastern this week. In set one, the Royals and Fire were even for the first 13 points. However, the Royals used a 5 point run to go up 18-13 then went on another 4 point run to take a 24-16 lead. The Royals would finish off the Fire 25-17 in set one.
In set two it was much of the same at the start with the score staying fairly close. The Royals would once again open it up with a 4 point run to take a 15-9 lead. The Fire never really threatened in set two as the Royals were able to keep them from gaining any momentum in the set. The Royals would eventually finish off the Fire once again by a score of 25-17 to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.
Set three was a very different story as the Fire kept pace with the Royals for much of the set. Neither team lead by more than two points until the Royals went on a 4 point run to go up 21-18 late in the set. Southeastern would get a point back but the Royals were done playing games and scored the final four points of the match to win 25-19 and sweep the Fire 3-0. The Royals improved to 9-4 (5-2) on the season following their victory.
Warner was led offensively by
Adrienne Czaplewski with 15 kills and Angie Pagan Perez with 11. Ivelisse Saint Claire would have a breakout game as she added in a season high 8 kills for the Royals.
Raygen Lee would drop in 34 assists on the night and Pagan Perez would lead the team with 10 digs. The Royals as a team would also finish the match hitting .301.Â
The match against Johnson and Wales on Saturday October 8 is postponed for travel safety with Hurricane Matthew comeing through the state. The Royals will be back in action Wednesday October 12 at Ave Maria. Game time is set for 6 pm.
