Box Score THOMASVILLE, Ga.- The Warner women's basketball team traveled up to Thomas University to open up Sun Conference play against the Nighthawks Thursday night. The Royals got conference play off on the right foot as they were able to come away with a 63-55 win over the Nighthawks. The Royals found themselves trailing at the end of the first quarter 13-11, but the second quarter was all Warner as they started the quarter with a 11-3 run to go up 22-16 mid-way through the quarter. The Royals were able to hold the lead and finish the quarter outscoring Thomas 18-11 and take a 29-24 lead into halftime. The Royals shot 39% from the field in the first half and 30% from the three point line.
The Royals continued their hot hand in the third quarter as they scored the first five points of the second half to go up 34-24 early in the quarter. The Royals would then use a 7-0 run mid-way through the quarter to extend their lead to 13 points, 43-30. The Nighthawks would cut into that lead a bit, however, Warner would still hold a 47-38 lead into the fourth quarter. The Nighthawks came out firing in the fourth quarter as they chipped away at the lead and would cut it to three at the end of the game. Thomas began to foul with 1:11 remaining, but ice ran through the Royals veins as they hit their free throws down the stretch to preserve the win, 63-55. With the victory, the Royals improve to 4-3 (1-0) on the season.
Warner was led by
Kaley Schmick with 23 points and 12 rebounds followed by Charissa Broadway with 9 points, 3 assists, and 3 steals. The Royals are back at home Saturday afternoon in another Sun Conference match-up with Keiser University at 2 pm.
