Box Score 3 LAKE WALES, Fla.- The Warner baseball team won their opening conference series over Florida Memorial with a Saturday sweep of the Lions. The Royals dropped the Friday game 10-8 after the Lions started off hot scoring 7 of their 10 runs in the first three innings. The Royals came back to tie the game at 7 in the bottom of the fourth inning with a 3 RBI double by
Broderick Rodocker. However, the Lions had the big blow in the top of the with a 3 run homerun over the right field wall that gave them the lead for good.
In game 1 on Saturday the Royals jumped out to a 7-0 lead after 3 innings. The Lions came back with a six run 5th inning to bring them within a run of the Royals. In the bottom of the 6th, the Royals struck again with three more runs. In that inning
Taran Tipton and
Tyler Dauphinee had RBI doubles to highlight the innning. The Lions tried to mount a comeback but
Trey Norris came in the 9th to record his fourth save of the season and preserve the 11-9 victory for Warner.
In the rubber match of the series,
Cole Roark took to the hill to try and get the Royals the series win. Roark was able to do so in convincing fashion going 8 innings, striking out 10 batters, and not allowing a walk or earned run. The Royals maintained a 3-0 lead into the 8th when an error loaded the bases for Florida Memorial. The Lions were able to get a hit and score 2 unearned runs to make the score 3-2 Royals. In the bottom of the 8th,
Randy Rodriguez came to bat with the bases loaded and did not dissapoint. Rodriguez hit a bases clearing double in the right center field gap to make the score 6-2 Royals. In the ninth,
Trey Norris once again came on in a non-save situation to shut the door on Florida Memorial.
In the series
Broderick Rodocker finished 9-14 with two doubles, 6 RBI's, 2 runs scored, and a stolen base to highlight the Royals offense.
Warner will travel to Eckerd on Tuesday February 23 for a 6 pm start.
