BATS COME ALIVE IN FIRST CONFERENCE SWEEP

Royals hitters stay hot on a cold weekend

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3
THOMASVILLE, Ga. --- The Royals baseball team took care of business as they swept their first conference series in over two years when they visited the Thomas University Night Hawks last Friday afternoon in Thomasville, GA. More impressive of this feat, is the fact that the sweep marks the programs first, on the road, since the '09 season when Coach Jeff Sikes led his team across the pond to Babson Park, Fl., where the Royals outlasted conference foes, The Webber International Warriors.

Leading the Royals in the first victory of the weekend, SS Tomas Rivera, went 3-5 at the plate with a pair of RBI's. Senior Broderick Rodocker, propelled the team with a
towering homer to center in the top of the 5th that gave the Royals a 4-3 lead. Warner's bats would stay hot on their way to the 8-7 win.

Game two would see the Night Hawks take a 2-0 lead in the 2nd inning on a Gavin Murphy' double and Peguero reaching on an error. Matthew Brady would single to drive home Murphy, and after a fielder's choice, would score on True's single to give TU the lead.

The Royals would get the spark they needed in the top of the 5th, for the second consecutive game, as Randy Rodriguez would start the inning off with a triple that would prove to be the beginning of a big 5 run inning. The Royals would continue swinging the bats well in the top of the 6th as they would stack on two more runs on hits by Rivera, Sotolongo and Dauphinee. Tyler Perkins (6 IP, 3 ER, 2 BB, 5 K) earned the 10-6 win for Warner in the nightcap with a stellar performance that allowed a smooth transition into a young bullpen full of potential.

The final game was an offensive eruption to say the least. With 44 total at bats, 16 runs and 21 combined hits, the offense gave starting pitcher, Cole Roark (5-0),  a comfortable lead as he cruised to a CG, 2 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, victory over the Night Hawks to complete the sweep.

With the sweep, the Royals improve to 12-5, 5-1 in The Sun Conference. The squad look to continue their winning ways in conference play as they travel down to Miami Gardens, Fla., to face the #2 St. Thomas Bobcats this up-coming weekend.
