LAKE WALES, Fla.- The Royals baseball team got a huge conference sweep this weekend as they upended the visiting Keiser Seahawks in all three games of the series. On Friday, the Royals were able to come away with a 9-7 victory behind the arm of
Jordan Pike and the bat of
Randy Rodriguez. The Royals jumped out to a 3-1 lead after 4 innings with some back and forth scoring until the seventh inning. Thats when
Gerson Sotolongo hit a solo homerun to tie the game at 6 and give the Royals the momentum they would need to win the ball game. In the eighth,
Jose Fortuna hit a sac fly to center that was followed by a 2 RBI double by
Taran Tipton to give the Royals a 9-6 lead going into the 9th. The Seahawks would add a run in the ninth but never threatened as
Trey Norris picked up his 10th save of the season.
Jose Hernandez picked up the win and Rodriguez finished the game going 4-5 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBI's.
In game 2 of the series it was the
Tyler Perkins show as he completely shut down the Seahawks offense. Perkins threw a complete game shut out and allowed only 3 hits, walking 2, and striking out 8. In the second inning, Perkins was hit with a line drive off his pitching elbow, which was followed by a great diving play by
Broderick Rodocker at first to get the out. Perkins elected to stay in the game and the decision turned out to be the right one. Offensively, the Royals pounded out 8 hits and 3 doubles en route to a 5-0 victory.
Junior Fermin finished the game 2-4 with a RBI and
Jose Fortuna finshed 1-3 with 2 RBI's.Â
Game 3 of the series was a Royals offensive display. They scored 14 runs on 21 hits to secure the series sweep with a mercy rule 14-4 victory.
Cole Roark threw a complete game for the victory going 7 innings, striking out 4, and allowing only 2 earned runs. Offensively, the Royals had 6 players with a multi hit game led by
Randy Rodriguez going 4-6 with a double and 3 RBI along with
Tomas Rivera going 2-5 with a homerun and 3 RBI's.Â
The Royals will stay in Lake Wales for a mid-week non-conference match up with Southeastern University on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
