Royals Open Up Conference Play With Victory

Box Score LAKE WALES, Fla.-    The women's volleyball team opened Sun Conference play this Saturday against visiting Keiser Seahawks. The Royals would fall early in set one to Keiser 6-2 before starting their comeback. Trailing for the majority of the first set, the Royals finally tied it at 20 before taking their first lead since 2-1. The Royals would finish off Keiser in set one, scoring the final seven points of the set to win 25-20.

In set two, the Royals would start hot but Keiser would make a comeback to take the lead mid-way through the set 18-15. Warner would come back and tie it at 18 before Keiser would take a 20-18 lead. The Royals would once again score the final seven points to win set teo 25-20.

The teams would take an 8 minute break before set three. When both teams came back onto the court, it was as though they had new players. Keiser jumped out in set three on fire and never looked back. They seemingly could do no wrong and on the flip side, it seemd everything Warner did hurt them. The Seahawks would hand the Royals their worse set loss of the season 25-14.

The Royals knew they couldn't allow Keiser to win set four because the momentum they had would be tough to overcome in a fifth set to 15 points. Warner was up to the challenge and jumped on the back of senior Adrienne Czaplewski in the fourth set. Czaplewski finished the set with seven kills. The Royals went on to win 25-21 and win the match 3-1 over Keiser.

Czaplewski led the Royals offensively with 18 kills and Angie Pagan Perez finished with 9. Kiara Rivera Escudero dished out 34 assists in the match. Pagan Perez led the Royals with 16 digs and was followed up by 14 digs from Czaplewski and Thalia Mendez.

Volleyball next travels to Miami to take on #21 St. Thomas University on Saturday September 17 at 2 p.m.
