Warner Volleyball Drops Close Match To St. Thomas

Box Score MIAMI, Fla.- The Warner women's volleyball team took a drive down highway 27 to St. Thomas University to take on the #21 ranked Bobcats on Saturday. Even though all three sets were very close and all would go past 25 points, the Royals would see themselves on the losing end 3-0 to the Bobcats. In set one, the Royals and Bobcats would go back and forth with points until St. Thomas would pull away to go up 18-12. The Royals would not lose their fight, however, and would fight back to go up 25-24 on the Bobcats. The Bobcats would tie the set at 25 but the Royals would find themselves again with a chance to take the first set up 27-26. A kill and two Royals errors would prove fatal for them as they would drop set one to the Bobcats 29-27.

There was no shortage of drama in sets 2 and 3 as well. The second set would go back and forth the entire set as both teams played high intensity volleyball. The Bobcats would come out victorious again in set two 26-24 over the Royals. Set three would start with the Bobcats jumping out to a big 7-2 lead, but the Royals would storm back and go ahead 10-9.Again both teams would play point for point with mini runs from both Warner and St. Thomas in the middle of the set breaking things up a bit. Once again, though, the Bobcats would come away with a 26-24 win over the Royals to take the match 3-0. In the end, the Royals would beat themselves as they committed 15 unforced errors in set one, 13 in set two, and 10 in set three.

The Royals were led offensively by Adrienne Czaplewski with 15 kills and Kiara Rivera Escudero with 30 assists. Thalia Mendez and Angie Pagan Perez held down the defense with 14 digs apiece.

Even with the disappointing result, the Royals will gather themselves back up and get ready to take on Southeastern Wednesday September 21 at 7 pm. The match will be played on Warner's campus in the Turner Athletic Center.
