Box Score 2 LAKE WALES, Fla.- The Warner baseball team opened up their season Saturday afternoon with a double header against visiting Edward Waters Tigers. The Royals gave up one run in the top of the first inning but were able to come right back to tie the game at one on a
Broderick Rodocker sac fly to center that scored
Junior Fermin. The Tigers added another run in the second inning, but the Royals would once again strike right back to score two runs on a
Tyler Dauphinee single and
Junior Fermin single. With a 3-2 lead heading into the fifth, Rodocker would strike again on another RBI single that scored
Taylor Briggs from second. Warner would give up one more run before turning the ball over to Rodocker to get the save and give the Royals an opening day victory.
Tyler Perkins started the game and got the win for the Royals going 4 innings and striking out 4 batters. Rodocker finished the first game 1-2 with 2 RBI's along with
Junior Fermin going 2-3 with an RBI and stolen base.
Game two would start much the same way as game one with the Tigers scoring first in the top of the first inning. Warner would tie things up in the bottom of the inning with a
Jesse Haney RBI double that scored
Broderick Rodocker from first. In the third, Edward Waters would strike with three runs to go up 4-1 on Warner. Then in the bottom of the fourth,
Chase Coon would start the scoring for the Royals with a RBI double to left center that scored
Jordan Pike.
Junior Fermin would come up to bat two batters later and hit a rocket to center for a single. The center fielder would misplay the ball and the error would allow 2 runs to score and the Royals to tie the game up at 4. The Tigers would then add 2 runs in the 6th and another in the 7th for the 7-4 win over the Royals. Rodocker finished the game 2-4 with a double while
Jordan Pike went 2-3 with a run scored and
Chase Coon going 2-3 with a double and RBI.
The Royals and Tigers will meet in a game 3 rubber match Sunday at 1:30 pm.
