Box Score MIAMI, Fla.- The Royals baseball team opened conference play at Florida Memorial on Friday afternoon.
Tyler Perkins started on the hill for the Royals and did everything he could to give Warner a win, however, the bats just could not figure out the Lions and Warner fell 2-1. Florida Memorial got their only two runs of the game in the bottom of the third inning when, with two outs, a fly ball was hit to center and lost in the sun. The ball fell for a hit and two Lions came around to score. The Royals would come back in the top of the fourth inning and threatened to tie the game up when
Josh Canabal hit an RBI double over the right fielders held that scored
Broderick Rodocker and put runners on second and third with nobody out. The Lions got a ground ball that got the runner out at third then with runners on first and second, the Lions got a ground ball double play to end the threat. The Royals would once again threaten to tie the game back up in the sixth, but Florida Memorial threw a runner out at the plate trying to score. The Royals were unable to get anything else going offensively and would fall to 2-6 (0-1) on the season. Canabal led the Royals going 2-3 with a double and RBI while Perkins finished the game with 8 innings pitched and 12 strikeouts. The Royals and Lions will be back to action Saturday in a double header beginning at 11 am.
