Box Score 2 MIAMI, Fla.- One day after one of the toughest offensive days of the season for the Royals, the offense clicked and were able to score 23 runs in two games. In the first game, starting pitcher
David Plotkin, got all the run support he needed in his first conference start as a Royal. The Royals opened up the top of the first inning scoring seven runs on six hits. The Royals did benefit from a couple Lions errors in the inning, but the Royals got RBI singles from
Jesse Haney,
Josh Canabal,
Tyler Dauphinee, and
Taylor Briggs. The Royals would then tack on another run in the top of the third on a
Ryan Klingler RBI single that scored
Will Nelson. The Lions would get a run in the bottom of the fourth, but in the top of the seventh, the Royals bats exploded again. The Royals got five runs in the inning to go up 13-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh. The Lions were able to push one run across, but the Royals would get out of the inning to come away with a 13-2 run rule victory in game one of the day. The Royals were led by
Taylor Briggs who went 2-3 with 3 RBI's,
Josh Canabal who went 2-4 with 3 RBI's, and
Tyler Dauphinee who went 2-3 with a double and 2 RBI's.
David Plotkin got the win going 5 innings, striking out four and allowing just one run.
In game two, the Royals bats were hot once again. The Royals got three runs in the first on a
Josh Canabal 3 run homerun over the right center field wall, then got another three runs in the second. However, the Lions came out swinging as well. They scored four in the first and two in the second to make it a 6-6 ball game after only two innings of play. The offense would slow a bit after that as the Lions got a run in the fourth, but the Royals would answer right back to tie the game up at seven in the top of the fifth with a run of their own. With the score tied at seven in the bottom of the eighth, the Lions would push two runs across to go ahead 9-7. With their backs against the wall, the Royals came out in the top of the ninth and would manufacture three runs to go ahead of the Lions 10-9. In the bottom of the ninth, the Lions got on first with an error, advanced to second on a pass ball, and then would score the tying run on a single to right field. With the score tied at 10, both teams headed to extra innings. Neither team would score in the 10th inning and the umpires and coaches concluded it was too dark to continue play. The game would end in a 10-10 tie but is officially a suspended game for now. The Royals will travel back to Miami at the end of the season to finish the game if needed for seeding for the conference tournament. If not, the game will officially be a tie. The Royals were led by
Broderick Rodocker who went 3-5 with 2 RBI's and
Josh Canabal going 2-5 with a homerun and 3 RBI's.
The Royals are back in action Tuesday night as they travel to Eckerd to take on the Tritons at 6 pm.
