Box Score 2 DES MOINES, Iowa- The Royals men's volleyball team walked away with two wins today at the Grand View Molten Invitational. The first match put the Royals up against Graceland University. In the first set, the Royals used a 6-0 run late in the set to go up 20-11 and cruise on to a 25-16 first set win. After faltering in the second set and losing to Graceland 25-19, the Royals were down 15-10 in the third when they went on a 8-0 run. The Royals would then alternate points with Graceland and come away with a 25-21 set three win. The Royals led the match 2-1 entering the fourth set and looked to close out Graceland and did so early as they began the set on a 7-0 run then went on a 3-0 run to put themselves up 13-3. The Royals would then cruise to a 25-16 set four win and a 3-1 match victory over Graceland.
Jahn Lazada led the way for the Royals with 18 kills,
Manuel Panchame had 21 assists, and
Gillan Octave led with 9 digs.
In the second match of the day, the Royals went up against Culver Stockton. In the first set, the Royals used a late 4-0 run and scored the final three points of the set to win 25-19. In set two, the Royals went on an 8-2 run mid way through the set that propelled them to a 25-20 win and a commanding 2-0 lead in the match. The third set was very close throughout and Culver Stockton threatened the Royals for much of the set. However, Warner would score 3 of the final 4 points to win the set 25-22 and the match 3-0. The Royals were led by
Gillan Octave and
Jahn Lazada who had 13 kills apiece,
Martin Krueger who had 42 assists along with 11 digs.
The Royals have one more match Saturday at 11 am against Missouri Baptist College before returning home.
