Box Score LAKE WALES, Fla.- The Royals baseball team played their final mid-week game of the season on Tuesday against the Eckerd College Tritons. The Royals would use some late inning offense to come away with the 8-7 win over Eckerd. Warner struck first early as they scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning. The first run came on an RBI single by
Jesse Haney that was followed up by a 2 RBI single by
Josh Canabal. With runners on 1st and 3rd,
Colby Retkowski put down a perfectly executed safety squeeze that would plate the fourth and final run of the inning for the Royals. The score would remain that way until the sixth inning when the Royals allowed five runs to the Tritons and Eckerd took a 5-4 lead. In the seventh, the Royals would benefit from two Triton mistakes as
Gerson Sotolongo would score on a balk then
Junior Fermin would come home on a wild pitch later in the inning. Eckerd would take the lead away from the Royals once again with two runs in the top od the eighth, but the Royals would come right back and score two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead right back. Sotolongo would hit a RBI single to right field to score the first run, then with runners on firt and third, the Royals would get caught in a run down at first and
Cal Sanelli would come home for the go ahead run before the final out was made at first. With the 8-7 lead,
Broderick Rodocker would come in the ninth inning and get the save to preserve the win for Warner. Sotolongo finished the game 3-4 with a double and a RBI. The Royals will match up against Thomas in a 3 game conference series at home beginning Friday at 3:30 pm.
