Box Score 2 LAKE WALES, Fla.- The Royals baseball team took on Lawrence Tech and Bellevue on Tuesday. The first game of the day put the Royals up against the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils. The Blue Devils would strike first with a run in the top of the second inning then again with two runs in the top of the third to go up 3-0. The Royals then exploded for four runs in the bottom of the third inning.
Broderick Rodocker got things going for the Royals with a RBI double that scored John Sena.
Jesse Haney then came through with a 2 RBI single to right that plated Rodocker and
Taylor Briggs, that was followed up by an RBI double that scored Haney. The Royals took a 4-3 lead and that was all the pitching staff needed the rest of the way as the Blue Devils bats were shut down.
Joey Theune got his first win of the season and
Ronnie Filipkowski got his first save of the year as the Royals came away with the 4-3 win.
The second game of the day for the Royals was against the #18 ranked Bellevue Bruins. The Royals got off to a very rough start allowing two runs in the first and six runs in the second on just four hits. The Royals got a single run in the sixth when
Junior Fermin scored on a passed ball. Bellevue would add two more runs in the seventh to go up 10-1. The Royals would attempt a comeback with two runs in the bottom of the seventh on a
Colby Retkowski sac fly and
Xanders Vazquez RBI single, but the Royals could not push across any more runs. Bellevue got another run in the eighth to end the scoring and win the game 11-3.
Warner will have a day off on Wednesday before their annual Invitational Tournament begins on Thursday, March 9.
