Kissimmee, Fla. – The Lady Royals Soccer team opened things up against the Grace College Lady Lancers this afternoon at 2:30, in what was the first game of their quest for an NCCAA National Championship.
The match started slowly, as neither side netted a goal until the 21
st minute of the game when the Lady Lancers were able to cash in on a free kick after the Lady Royals were called for a hand ball inside the goalie box.
The Lady Royals answered back with a goal of their own quickly, 25
th minute, when
Zabella Thompson was able to knock in an unassisted header to even things up 1-1; her 1
st goal of the season.
Grace was able to net in one more goal before halftime and take the lead 2-1; the Lady Lancers knocked in a one-time goal with 5 minutes to go before halftime.
Warner came out strong in the 2
nd half but the Lady Lancers were prepared and kept any offensive attacks at bay; while the Lancers offense began to click on all cylinders and were able to cash in 3 more goals in the 2
nd half, to make the final outcome of the match 5-1 in favor of the Lady Lancers.
Grace College came into the match with an 18-4 overall record and had one of the strongest defenses the Lady Royals had faced all year, only allowing 12 goals the entire year up until today's game. The Lady Lancers offense was also one of the strongest the Lady Royals faced this season, scoring 63 goals in 22 games before today's match.
Warner came into the match with a 12-7-1 record and are now 12-8-1 on the year.
The Lady Royals will have a chance to make the corrections they need and get back on track tomorrow as they take on the #2 ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan University Lady Eagles at 12 Noon.
