LAKE WALES - FLA. This evening The Warner Royals Men's Basketball Team started off the Holiday Inn Express Classic Tournament with a bang and a 94-82 win over Midland University. This win also solidifies Coach Sean Hanrahan's 250th career win!
Despite a sluggish first half in comparison to the second, Warner pulled ahead of the Warriors and stayed ahead for the remainder of the game. The Royals improved in field percentage, three point percentage, and free throw percentage in the second half, which produced their largest lead of 15 points.Â
Khalil Ozuna went double double yet again, with 27 points scored and 12 rebounds grabbed which led the Royals. Ozuna has now scored 20 or more points in a total of 7/14 games played so far this season. Darryl Mercer Jr. was not far behind offensively as he scored 21 points for himself.
The Royals shot 55.7% from the field, 31.3% from behind the three point line, and 84.6% from the free throw line. Despite several fouls on the men, the Royals found great success from their aggressive playing and achieved a win.
Warner has now improved their record to 9-6 overall, and will be back in the TAC again tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 PM to face off with The University of Rio Grande. The game will be broadcasted and live stats/video will be available on the Royal Sports Network.
