Royals Strike Down Pioneers and Tame Tigers In Walk Off Fashion

LAKE WALES, Fla. – Royals pick up their 9th win in the season, Jaryd Clary throws 2 hit gem against Pioneers. Junior Fermin fires extra inning walk off base hit up the middle to beat Edward Waters.

GAME 1: Royals 1, Pioneers 0

In what turned out to be a pitching duel, the Royals came out on top 1-0. Jaryd Clary got the start on the mound for the Royals and earned his 4th win of the young season. Clary threw 7 innings only surrendering 2 hits and walking 1 while striking out 2. On the other side of the ball for the Pioneers, Nicholas Beardsley threw 6 inning holding the Royals to 3 hits but surrendering 1 run. The game was cruising along at 0-0 in the bottom of the 3rd inning, when Cole Parks shot a double into right center field to lead off the inning. With 1 out, Parks swiped a bag moving over to 3rd. Junior Fermin stepped in and hit the eventual game winning ground ball to short top that scored Parks.

Jaryd Clary picked up his 4th win moving him to 4-1 on the year. Cole Parks stole his 14th bag of the year and is hitting just shy of .400 on the season. The Royals moved to 8-4 on the year with the win.

GAME 2: Royals 6, Tigers 5 -Extra Innings

The Royals offense opened up and used 11 hits to earn their 9th season victory and they did so in walk off fashion. Tad Stockowski got things started in the bottom of the 2nd inning with a base hit into left that scored Rafael Astacio. Mick Tinny followed up with another base hit to left scoring Xanders Vazquez. Then Cole Parks reached on a fielding error by the Pioneers that scored Stockowski. The Royals were leading 3-0 heading into the top of the 4th where the Tigers put up 3 runs of their own and tied it up 3-3. The Royals broke the tie in the bottom of the 5th with a Derek Deler single that scored Rio Russel. The Tigers then took the lead in the top of the 7th scoring 2 more runs, 5-4. Faced with defeat, the Royals pushed the game tying run across in the bottom of the 7th when a Deler fielder's choice scored Parks. The game went into extra innings until the bottom of the 9th when Astacio doubled deep to left center. Vazquez was hit by a pitch to give the Royals runners on 1st and 2nd. Junior Fermin stepped in and fired a shot back up the middle that scored Astacio and completed the walk off win for the Royals!
