Lady Royals Overcome Pioneers For 6th & 7th Wins On The Year

CLERMONT, Fla. – Cortney Bunker extends her hitting streak to 9 games straight. Sara Bruno smashes 2nd & 3rd homers of the year. Megan Hammett extends her hitting streak to 5 straight.

GAME 1

Starting off game 1, in the top of the 1st, Chantal Crockett walked as the only baserunner. It wasn't until the 2nd inning that Lady Royals put up runs. Avery Cotterill and Megan Hammett took walks putting Cotterill on second and Hammett on first. Abigail Oliver came up with a sac bunt moving the runners to second and third. Madison Taylor came up with a big hit allowing Cotterill to score and moving Hammett to third achieving a double for herself. Megan Garfinkel came up and slapped into a fielder's choice allowing Hammett to score making the score 2-0. Cortney Bunker tacked on the last run of the inning by hitting a single over the infield allowing Taylor to score making the score 3-0. Point Park answered back in the bottom of the 2nd adding 1 run. In the 3rd inning Crockett started the inning off with a walk. Sara Bruno came up and tanked a home run scoring Crockett and herself making the score 5-1. Brianna Barrios was next and reached with a hit by pitch. Hammett singled to left field moving Barrios to second. Taylor came up and reached on with a hit by pitch as well loading the bases but that was all the Royals could do for the inning. Point Park tacked on 2 more runs in the bottom of the 4th on a few hits making the score 5-3. In the top of the 5th the Lady Royals started the inning by Oliver hitting a hard shot to force a bobble by the second baseman. Taylor singled moving Oliver to third on the throw from the outfield. Garfinkel singled her at bat allowing Oliver to score and moving Taylor to second making the score 6-3. In the top of the 6th another run was added. S. Bruno hit a double to right field down the line, Kasey Heslin was put in to pinch run. Brittany Winget was put in to pinch hit for Barrios, during her at bat she singled to left field allowing Heslin to score from second. Cotterill reached first due to an error by the Pioneers second baseman, moving Winget to second. Oliver drew a walk loading the bases for the Royals, but the end of the inning had the score 7-3. The final runs came in the top of the 7th. Crockett reached by hitting a single. S. Bruno was able to pump out another home run making the score 9-3. Winget came up to bat and singled to finish the inning.
Jordan Lewis threw the first 4 innings and recorded 4 hits. 3 runs scored, 1 walk, and 2 strikeouts earning herself the win.
Paris Cook threw the last 3 and recorded 2 hits, 1 walk, and 1 strike out.

GAME 2

The Lady Royals hit a snag in game 2 for runs. In the bottom of the 1st, Cortney Bunker singled to start off. Chantal Crockett laid down a sac bunt to advance Bunker. Bunker stole third and scored on an error by the Pioneers third baseman. Brianna Barrios reached on a walk but that was all the Royals could produce in the inning making the score 1-0. It wasn't until the bottom of the 6th another run would be tacked on. Sara Bruno was walked and Kasey Heslin was put in to pinch run. Barrios hit into a ground out but was able to move Heslin to second. Avery Cotterill laid a sac bunt down further moving Heslin to third but being out herself. Megan Hammett came up with a single allowing Heslin to score. This sealed the win for the Lady Royals to 2-0.
Sylvia Welsh threw all 7 innings where she recorded 5 hits, 2 walks, and 8 strike outs.
