Box Score 3 JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Warner University Royals Baseball team owns the best start to the season in 15 years. After beating the NAIA Top 25 Webber International twice, they moved onto the 3-0 Edward Waters College. The Royals light feet swiped 13 bags over the weekend with 8 bags stolen in game 3.
Game 1 Recap
The Royals opened their three game series at Edward Waters Friday night with a 5-2 victory.
Jarrett Joyner started the game on the mound and got the win for the Royals.
Warner got things going early in the game as
Cole Parks hit a double to left then was bunted to 3rd.
Junior Fermin walked and stole second. On the play the Tigers catcher threw the ball away and Parks and Fermin both scored on the error. In the 4th,
Jesse Alker led off with a homerun to right field to make the score 3-0. The Royals would then score two more runs in the 8th when Fermin hit a single, stole second and scored on an Alker single. Alker then later scored on a wild pitch to give the Royals a 5-0 lead. EWC would score two in the 9th before
Anthony Torres would come into the game and get a one out save to preserve the game one win and notch his 2
nd save of the year.
Jarrett Joyner finished on the mound going 5 innings giving up 2 hits, 0 runs, and 5 striking out 5.
Game 2 Recap
In the second game of the series, Edward Waters opened the scoring with a run in the 1
st inning to take an early lead. Warner came back with a run of their own in the 2
nd inning on a RBI double by
Derek Deler that plated
Xanders Vazquez. The Tigers would score two more runs in the 4th to go back up 3-1. The Royals then answered back in the 5
th inning on a 2 RBI single by
Rio Russell that scored
Alfred Brown, who pinch ran for
Anthony Martinez, and
Cole Parks to tie the game at 3-3. Then in the 6
th inning, Vazquez led off with a walk,
Rafael Astacio sacrificed him to second, and after a Deler walk, Martinez hit a RBI single to right to give the Royals a 4-3 lead.
For the second straight game,
Anthony Torres came in for a one out save for the Royals giving him his 3
rd of the year.
Cameron Cooper got the start and a no decision.
Tristan Starling (1-0) got the win in relief for the Royals.
Game 3 Recap
The Royals offense came alive in the final game of the series as the Royals finished off the sweep with a 10-4 victory. In the 2nd inning
Kevin Troncoso scored the first run of the game on a
Cal Sanelli ground out.
Xanders Vazquez, pinch running for
Mick Tinny, then scored on a
Derek Deler sac fly. After a couple walks and 3 stolen bases by
Alfred Brown and
Cole Parks,
Rio Russell hit a 2 RBI double to left center to give the Royals a 4-0 lead. In the 4th inning the Royals offense went back to work as Sanelli was driven home in a RBI single by Parks. Brown and Parks then both scored on a batted ball by
Junior Fermin and an error by EWC.
Jesse Haney then scored
Rio Russell on a RBI single then Fermin scored on a sac fly by Troncoso to end the scoring in the 4th. With the Royals up 9-0 in the 5th, Tinny led off with a single. Vazquez then pinch ran and advanced to second on an error then to third on a fly ball. Vazquez would then score on a fielder's choice by Brown to put the Royals up 10-0. EWC would tack on 4 runs over the next 3 innings to make the score 10-4.
Jaryd Clary started the game for the Royals and got the win, going 4 scoreless innings.
