LAKE WALES, Fla. – Gianluca Cuomo graduated from Warner University following the 2015 Men's Soccer season. Cuomo was a high intensity player that changed the face of the Royals Midfield. On March 2
nd, 2018, the San Antonio FC; members of the United Soccer League, announced the signing of Cuomo for the upcoming 2018 season.
Gianluca Cuomo transferred to Warner following a stint at Cleveland State University. He played his senior and final year as a member of the Royals receiving his Bachelor's Degree. "Warner University helped me grow into the person I am today and for that I am thankful, I am very appreciative of the Warner community." said Gianluca. Cuomo spent time in the NPSL as a member of the Rochester River Dogz where he was named an NPSL 2016 First Team All Supporters XI Selection. Making an appearance at a combine in Orlando Florida, he caught the eye of the San Antonio Technical Staff. "Gianluca has come in and done very well this preseason and impressed the coaching staff," said head coach Darren Powell. "He has come in very hungry and shown good character and competitiveness. He has played well in preseason matches so we are glad to add him to the roster."
Cuomo from Warner University, joins Webber International and Southeastern as members of The Sun Conference to have sent players to the professional realm in just the past few years. Following the 2009 and 2010 seasons, Webber International's Andres Acosta played for the St. Louis Ambush in 2013-2014 as a part of the MISL professional league and then went on to play for the FC Tucson in 2014 -2015. As a PDL semiprofessional he played against MLS teams in Open Cup. Southeastern University sent a pair of players, Pedro Ivo Dias and Gerritson Craane following the 2016 season to the Florida Tropics who represent the MASL.
Warner University soccer head coach, Drew Stacy said "It's great to have Gianluca move on and sign with San Antonio FC. He was a very driven player here at WU and you knew he was going to go after his opportunities with everything. It's always a great success story when a player can come into college and complete his degree before moving on into the professional ranks. I'm blessed to have been a part of his athletic, academic and spiritual growth here at Warner and hope that these things will follow him into his professional career and beyond."
