LAKE WALES, Fla. – The No. 24 Royals improve to 18-7 overall and a TSC 3-1 record. The Royals took game 1 with a 7-6 final in walkoff fashion over the Ave Maria Gyrenes. They fell to the Gyrenes in game 2, 2-5.
GAME 1
The Gyrenes struck first in the top of the 3
rd. They were able to start the game off with the score being 3-0. During the bottom of the 3
rd, the Lady Royals tacked on their first run.
Kasey Heslin started things off with a single.
Cortney Bunker grounded out to third base for a sacrifice allowing Heslin to move to second.
Chantal Crockett singled, but it was enough for Heslin to score from second, moving the score to 3-1. Ave Maria answered back with another run in the top of the 4
th pushing the score to 4-1 and adding another in the top of the 5
th making the score to be 5-1. The Lady Royals tied the game in the bottom of the 5
th. Crockett drew a walk to start the rally from behind. An illegal pitch moved Crockett to second.
Sara Bruno walked. During the next at bat, Crockett stole third on a pass ball and then stole home while S. Bruno moved to third.
Kayla Bruno singled to the left and it allowed S. Bruno to score. At this point the score was 5-3.
Megan Hammett doubled through the left side moving K. Bruno to third.
Madison Taylor hit a hard single that allowed Hammett and K. Bruno to score, ending the inning 5-5. Although Ave Maria added one more run in the top of the 7
th making the score 6-5, the real answer came for the Lady Royals in the bottom of the 7
th. Hammett singled through the left side starting things off. Taylor moved Hammett to second on a sacrifice.
Brittany Winget stepped in and hit a walk-off 2 run homerun to win the game for the Lady Royals ending it with a score of 7-6. This was Winget's first homer this year.
Sylvia Welsh pitched for 4 innings. She allowed for 9 hits, 5 runs, and 6 strikeouts.
Brooke Olinger finished the last 3 innings with 3 hits and 1 run.
GAME 2
Unfortunately, the Lady Royals bats weren't as hot in game 2. Ave Maria struck first again with 1 run in the top of the 1
st and another in top of the 4
th making the score 2-0. In the bottom of the 4
th the Lady Royals tacked on their first.
Sara Bruno singled to the left side and Mackenzye Bobb stepped in to pinch run.
Avery Cotterill grounded out allowing Bobb to move to second.
Kayla Bruno then doubled to left scoring Bobb for their first run of the game pushing the score to 2-1. The Gyrenes answered back with another run in the top of the 5
th and 2 more in the top of the 7
th making the score 5-1. In the bottom of the 7
th Warner tacked on their last run.
Madison Taylor singled through the infield on the left side.
Megan Hammett reached on an error by the short stop and it allowed Taylor to move to second.
Kasey Heslin grounded out to the pitcher but it advanced both runners.
Cortney Bunker sent a hard single over the infield scoring Taylor and moving Hammett to third. Unfortunately, that was all for the Lady Royals. The game ended with a score of 5-2.
Jordan Lewis pitched for 7 innings. She allowed 8 hits, 5 runs, 5 walks, and dished out 6 strike outs.
