LAKE WALES, Fla. – The lady Royals (33-12) had their last home game series against the rivals across the lake Webber International (18-19). The 2 victories keep Warner on a path to possibly dethrone Southeastern out of first pending the series on Saturday. The hard fought wins came from great pitching and some outstanding bats from Warner.
GAME 1
It was not until the top of the 4
th when scoring opened up for either team. Webber answered first with a single unearned run putting the score 1-0. In the bottom of the 6
th, the Lady Royals answered back.
Megan Garfinkel singled up the middle to put a runner on for Warner.
Chantal Crockett laid a sacrifice bunt down to move Garfinkel to second.
Kasey Heslin bunted for a single during her at bat moving Garfinkel to third. During
Avery Cotterill's at bat, Heslin stole second. Cotterill burned the left fielder for a double scoring Garfinkel and Heslin.
Sara Bruno showed up for a single down the left field line scoring Cotterill, making the sore 3-1. In the top of the 7
th, Webber sent a 2 run homerun to tie the game back up. In the bottom of the 7
th, the Lady Royals rallied together to put up the last run of the game.
Megan Hammett singled putting a runner on. Garfinkel sac bunted to move Hammett to second. Crockett singled to the short stop advancing Hammett to third. During Heslin's at bat Crockett stole second. Heslin then singled but it would not advance the runners. Cotterill reached on a fielder's choice during her at bat. It advanced Heslin to second and Crockett to third but ultimately put Hammett out at home. S. Bruno hit a hot shot to the short stop that she could not handle which allowed Crockett to score. The game was won 4-3.
Sylvia Welsh (17-3) pitched all 7 innings, where she allowed 5 hits, 3 runs, and dished out 6 strike outs.
GAME 2
The second game was a different story for Warner. In the bottom of the 1
st,
Chantal Crockett walked putting a runner on
for the Lady Royals.
Kasey Heslin sac bunted to move Crockett to second.
Sara Bruno launched a 2 run home run starting the scoring for the game. The same story goes in the bottom of the 3
rd inning. Heslin singled through the right side. During
Avery Cotterill's at bat, Heslin stole second. Cotterill then took a walk putting runners on first and second. S. Bruno stepped in and sent another shot over the center field fence scoring 3 more runs, pushing the score to 5-0. That would be the only runs coming through the game.
Sara Bruno ended the day with 6 RBI's, Warner ended the game with a shutout.
Brooke Olinger (4-2) pitched all 7 innings, allowing only 4 hits, 1 walk, and 1 strike out.
