No. 22 Royals Softball Picks Up Another Pair Of TSC Wins Over Mariners, Welsh Earns 14th Win

LAKE WALES, Fla. -- The No. 22 Lady Royals came out on top this weekend against another Sun Conference opponent, Coastal Georgia. They earned a pair of wins for their Senior Day, the wins also sprung them into 1st place in The Sun Conference.

GAME 1 WU 3, CCG 1

Things started off in the bottom of the 1st when Chantal Crockett walked. Sara Bruno singled to third base where she advanced to second on the throw allowing Crockett to advance to third. Avery Cotterill reached first on an error by the pitcher, it allowed Crockett to score and S. Bruno to score and Cotterill to advance to second. This started the game 2-0 for the Lady Royals. In the bottom of the 3rd Warner stuck again with another run. Crockett singled to left field, and during the next at bat she stole second. S. Bruno sent a sac fly to center that allowed Crockett to advance to third. During the at bat Crockett scored on a wild pitch making the game 3-0. Coastal picked up a run of their own in the top of 6th, but ultimately Warner came out on top in the first game with a score of 3-1.

Sylvia Welsh (14-1) pitched for a stellar 7 innings where she allowed just 5 hits, 1 run, 4 walks, and 1 strikeout.

GAME 2 WU 5, CCG 2

Coastal Georgia jumped ahead in the top of the first with 1 run. Warner answered back in the bottom with Cortney Bunker singling to left field. Bunker stole second during the next at bat, then Sara Bruno stepped up to the plate and hit a triple to left center field scoring Bunker. Avery Cotterill came up to bat and singled to left field allowing Bruno to score. Brittany Winget singled to second base moving Cotterill to second, and both advanced to the next base on a wild pitch. In the top of the third Coastal came back with another run, and the Royals answered in the bottom of the fourth. Kasey Heslin walked with two outs, and Bunker singled to left center moving Heslin to second. Chantal Crockett singled up to middle scoring Heslin and advancing Bunker to second. Both girls advanced to the next base on a pass ball. S. Bruno singled up the middle scoring Bunker and moving Crockett to third ending the fourth inning. Bunker started off the bottom of the sixth with a single to right field and advanced to second on a sac bunt from Crockett. S. Bruno walked and Mckenzye Bobb came in to pinch run for her. Madison Taylor singled to right field scoring Bunker and advancing Bobb to third base. The Royals then held Coastal in the top of the seventh to secure the sweep.

Jordan Lewis (10-6) pitched 7 innings with 5 hits, 2 runs, 2 walks, and 8 strike outs.
