LAKE WALES, Fla. – Football is almost here! The Warner University Royals open up their season on the road in Kentucky against the No. 7 Georgetown Tigers on August 25
th.
The excitement is here and Royals football is 13 days from hitting the field. Head coach
Rod Shafer and his team has been hard at work for just over a week preparing for the quickly approaching season opener against No. 7 Georgetown (Ky). The Royals finished a difficult campaign in 2017 going (4-6, 2-3).
2018 will prove to be a challenging road for the Royals as 40% of their games will be against NAIA Preseason Top-25 opponents, No.2 Reinhardt University, No. 7 Georgetown College (Ky), No. 11 Southeastern University, No. 22 Faulkner University.
Tested right out of the gate, Warner faces off against No. 7 Georgetown (Ky) who finished the 2017 season at 9-2 falling in the NAIA Football Championship Quarterfinal to Reinhardt University.
In Week 3, the Royals will take on the No. 2 Reinhardt University Eagles. The Eagles sent waves through NAIA football in 2017 going a perfect 12-0 earning their programs first ever appearance in the NAIA Football National Championship Game. Reinhardt fell 10-17 to the University of Saint Francis (Ind.) in the National Championship Game.
Week 6 features one of the Mid-South powerhouse's and Sun Division favorite the No. 11 Southeastern University. Southeastern finished the 2017 season at 8-2 with both losses courtesy of Lindsey Wilson College and a NAIA Football Championship Series birth.
The Royals face No. 22 Faulkner University in Week 9. The Faulkner Eagles boasted a 7-3 2017 finish with a 4-1 Sun Division record.
