LAKE WALES, Fla. – The Lady Royals won a thrilling offensive battle today against the Middle Georgia State Knights 5-2, scoring all 5 goals in the second half. The team looked strong again on offense firing 14 total shots for the game, with 11 shots on goal. Four different Royals found the back of the net this afternoon as the team rallied in the second half scoring 5 unanswered goals.
The first half was a defensive battle that only had 7 total shots for both sides. Despite the low offensive numbers the Knights made their offensive strikes count as they put 3 shots on goal and 2 in the back of the net; they would end the half ahead of the Royals 2-0.
Samantha Warren and the Royals opened up the second half hot, Warren scored the first two goals for Warner, off assists from
Cristina Clements and
Emma Marshal, in back-to-back minutes, 51
st and 52
nd minute, to even things up for the Royals. The action didn't top there as
Rosa Ramirez knocked in a header off a corner from
Samantha Warren in the 66
th minute to give the Lady Royals their first lead of the game, 3-2. The team continued to play strong defense and backed by good play from goalie
Sarah Bergkvist, the Royals kept the Knights from scoring in the second half. The Royals would find the back of the net two more times off goals from
Lexi Garcia, assisted by
Rosa Ramirez, and the last goal coming from
Cristina Clements, assisted by
Natalia Carneiro, bringing the final score to an outstanding 5-2 in favor of the Royals.
The team will have a little recuperation time before their next match as they don't play again until September 1 at 5 p.m. against Florida College at Royals field.
