Defensive Battle Ends In Draw For The For Lady Royals

LAKE WALES, FLA – The Lady Royals played an impressive match tonight against a tough opponent, the Florida College Falcons, and after 110 minutes of play the match in ended in a draw 1-1. The is the first draw for the team this year and tough one to swallow for the team as they had 20 total shots and 9 on goal in the match. The team can hold their heads high after tonight's match because of the battle they fought the fact that they never stopped fighting throughout the match.

The first half started off quick as the Falcons immediately began to press the ball on the Royals side and were able to find a whole in the defense and capture a goal in the 10th minute of the match. The Royals defense would hold the Falcons at bay the rest of the match and battled through injuries; the most influential coming when freshman defender Emma Marshal went down after a hard header and had to exit the game. Despite losing a strong the defensive threat the rest of the team rallied and held the Falcons off the rest of the match and in overtime.

The Royals captured their goal in the 27th minute when Samantha Warren shuffled through the defense and found the back of the net for her 3rd goal of the year. Warren would find herself under the watchful the head referee throughout the match though, as she was awarded a yellow card in the 61st minute and again in the 91st minute, which saw her ejected and left the team short-handed the rest of the match. Despite being short-handed for the entire overtime period the Lady Royals played superbly and continued to spray shots at the net. The Royals almost struck pay dirt in the last remaining seconds on the second overtime period when they fired 3 shots on goal in the last 30 seconds but were not able to get one past the goalie and ended the match in a 1-1 draw to the Falcons.

The team will have 9 days of rest and training before they take the field again on September 10 at Ave Maria University at 7:00 PM.
